NEILIT Would Generate Jobs In Connection With Urdu Language

Monday, August 05, 2013: The Telecom and IT Minister, Kapil Sibal has given a green signal for a new programme, National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NEILIT) that falls under the Ministry of Communications and IT. He stated that this training institute is meant for generating jobs in connection with Urdu language.

“We have started one more initiative to connect Urdu language with employment. We have started a new programme NEILIT. It will open 50 centres in India where Urdu speaking children will be given training on electronics hardware. So that they get employment,” said Kapil Sibal, IBN.Live reported.

According to him, 40 students will receive training at the centre and more centres will come up in the coming days. “We want proliferation of Urdu language on the internet like English. I want people to tweet in Urdu, use Urdu on facebook. There is lot that we have to do for this language,” Sibal added.

Urdu Pedia similar to Wikipedia has been launched by the government that will enable people to add to the content in Urdu language once they get registered on its website. The moderator will go through the content on the website to make sure that only authentic content is uploaded on the website.

The previous month saw the first set of Urdu language fonts and keypad being unveiled by Kapil Sibal. These were developed in India. So far fonts that were developed in Pakistan were used by the people in India.
